Mobile Wallets

Using your Home Federal MasterCard® debit card with a mobile wallet is easy, secure, and private. You can pay electronically with your mobile device at many stores, apps, and websites you use every day without ever pulling out your debit card.

Mobile wallets are different for each device, depending on the brand of your smart phone or tablet. Use the links below to jump to your specific mobile wallet information.

Android Pay Apple Pay Samsung Pay

(Does Android, Apple, or Samsung not apply to you? Home Federal currently only offers electronic/mobile pay capabilities with the above three mobile wallets. Not all smart phones and tablets are compatible. Please check back in the future as we add to this list.)

An Overview of a Mobile Wallet:

A mobile wallet is an app available on your mobile device that is digitally linked to your Home Federal debit card. Mobile wallets can be used to make payments with your mobile device almost anywhere you shop, just look for the contactless payment symbol!

Note: Not all mobile devices are compatible. Your mobile device must support Near Field Communication (NFC). This is the field used between your device and the payment terminal that is designed to work only across short distances. Your phone will detect the field when used.

The Benefits of a Mobile Wallet:

Your Actual Debit Card Can Stay at Home
As long as you have your mobile device with you and the merchant accepts mobile pay, you don’t need to have your plastic debit card with you.

Quicker Transactions
No swiping, entering card information, etc. Simply hold near the mobile pay reader at the register or select your mobile wallet payment option when paying online.

Improved Transaction Security
Mobile wallets assign a virtual account number to your debit card so – unlike swiping your debit card – your full card details are never shared with the store when you pay.

Reduce Risk of Fraud
Every transaction is authenticated by your fingerprint, iris, or Personal Identification Number (PIN). Plus, your Home Federal MasterCard® comes with Zero Liability coverage for added protection against identity theft.

NOTE: As of November 2017, only personal/retail debit cards are authorized for use with mobile wallets. HSA and business debit cards will not yet work with mobile wallets.

How to Get Started:

  1. Download/open mobile wallet app.
  2. Register your finger print and PIN
  3. Add your Home Federal debit card information.

How to Make a Purchase:

  1. Look for the contactless payment symbol on the merchant’s terminal.
  2. Open your mobile wallet and select which card you’d like to use.
  3. Hold your mobile device close to the terminal until your device vibrates or beeps.

NOTE: Mobile wallet setups and purchase protocols may vary by app. See specific mobile wallet brand further down the page for full details. Message and data rates may apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q   What is a mobile wallet?
A   A mobile wallet is the replacement of a debit/credit card number or Primary Account Number (PAN / 16-digit card number) with a pseudo number called a “token”, for use in digital payment transactions. Mobile wallets were introduced to provide an additional layer of defense against card fraud by allowing the token to be stored and used in the merchant environment in place of the entire card number (PAN). There are several different types of mobile wallets. Home Federal currently offers the ability to pay with Android Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay.
Q   Is using a mobile wallet secure?
A   Yes, Home Federal Savings Bank debit card numbers are not stored on your device(s) nor are card numbers given to the merchant. A unique “token” is created specifically for that device and expires shortly after the transaction has been approved.
Q   Which Home Federal Savings Bank debit cards may I use with mobile wallets?
A   The Retail Classic and Retail Preferred Debit Card types are Mobile Wallet ready. Currently, Health Savings Account (HSA) and business debit cards are not compatible.
Q   What brands of devices have mobile wallets currently supported by Home Federal?
A   Android (Android Pay), Apple (Apply Pay), and Samsung (Samsung Pay). Please note that each brand has restrictions on devices compatible with their respective mobile wallet.
Q   What app needs to be downloaded for me to start using my device’s mobile wallet?
A

If you have an Android device: Search for the “Android Pay” app in Google Play and download to your phone.

If you have an Apple device: The mobile wallet should be pre-installed on the device; look for app named “Wallet”.

If you have a Samsung device: The mobile wallet should be pre-installed on the device; look for app named “Pay”. If it is not on the device search “Samsung Pay” in Google Play.

Q   Do I need to contact the bank to add my debit card to my mobile wallet?
A   It depends on your device(s). Android or Samsung users will always have to call to verify their card. Those using Apple devices may or may not have to call; it is at Apple’s discretion if you will have to call to verify the card.
Q   What information will I need to enroll my card in my mobile wallet?
A   You will have to enter the following information on their device (your mobile wallet may allow you to take a photo of the card to capture this information more efficiently):
  • Cardholder’s Name
  • Card Number
  • Card Expiration Date
  • Card Security Code

If you are prompted to call and validate your card, you will have to provide the following information to a bank representative as well:

  • 16 Digit Card Number
  • Cardholder Name
  • Cardholder Address
  • Last 4 digits of cardholder’s social security number
  • Recent card transaction (may not be an online purchase or a pending transaction):
    • Date of purchase
    • Merchant name
    • Transaction amount
Q   How soon can I start using the card with my mobile device after registering?
A   As soon as you see the message underneath the image of your card, then it is ready to use. If there are no issues, this message should appear within moments of setting up the card.
Q   What number do I call to verify my card?
A   844.646.5465. This number will automatically display for you in the process of setting up your card.

Android Pay

You are able to add a debit card to Apple Pay. All information you enter is encrypted and sent to Apple servers. This information is then used by Apple to determine whether to approve adding your card in order to protect you against fraud.

Apple does not have access to or store any of your debit card numbers added to Apple Pay. They will only store a portion of your actual card numbers and device numbers to help add and manage your cards across different devices.

Get Started:

To get started with Apple Pay, you will need:

  • Your eligible device
  • Your Home Federal debit card
  • The latest version of iOS, watch OS, or macOS
  • An Apple ID signed into iCloud

For step-by-step instructions per device, click here.

Using Apple Pay in stores:

When making purchases in-store, your Apple Pay uses Near Field Communication (NFC). This field is used between your device and the payment terminal that is designed to work only across short distances. Your phone will detect the field when used.

In order for you to send your payment information, you have to use Touch ID or your passcode as a safety precaution. Home Federal is able to verify your payment information by checking the dynamic security code when you make a transaction to ensure it is tied to your device. Your debit card number will not be sent by Apple or your device until your bank has verified the information.

Lost Phone:

In the case of a misplaced or presumably stolen phone, you can call Home Federal and suspend or remove your credit, debit, or prepaid cards from Apple Pay. If you have Find My iPhone, you can suspend Apple Pay just by putting your device in Lost Mode.
